Drie jaar geleden werd onze serie op weergaloze wijze geopend door violiste Noa Wildschut. Wij zijn uiterst verheugd dat zij terugkeert, notabene omring door twee topmusici, te weten cellist Benjamin Kruithof en…. de kersverse winnaar van het Koningin Elizabeth Concours Nikola Meeuwsen.
Het kan niet genoeg onderstreept worden hoe bijzonder het is, dat voor de eerste maal in de geschiedenis, deze prestigieuze muziekwedstrijd door een jonge Nederlander is gewonnen.
Biografie
De jonge supertalenten Noa Wildschut, Benjamin Kruithof en Nikola Meeuwsen zijn met z’n drieën goed voor twee ECHO Rising Stars en twee Concertgebouw Young Talent Awards.
Noa Wildschut, Benjamin Kruithof en Nikola Meeuwsen zijn nog jong – in de twintig – maar ze spelen alle drie al jaren op topniveau. Daarin hebben ze elkaar helemaal gevonden en ook hun muzikale persoonlijkheden sluiten naadloos op elkaar aan. Samen zijn ze hét ideale pianotrio: ze combineren technische perfectie en volwassen interpretatie met jeugdige energie en enthousiasme.
De Nederlandse violiste Noa Wildschut (2001) is slechts 24 jaar oud, maar is al jaren geen onbekende meer in de internationale klassieke muziekwereld. Als 6-jarige was Noa soliste op het “Kinderprinsengrachtconcert 2007”, dat live op televisie werd uitgezonden. Op haar 7e maakte ze haar debuut in de Grote Zaal van het Concertgebouw te Amsterdam met een optreden tijdens “The Night of the Promising” en in 2016 werd ze een “exclusive recording artist” bij Warner Classics. Noa is wereldwijd een veelgevraagde jonge gast voor festivals, recitals en solo-optredens met orkest. Ze speelde samen met inspirerende musici zoals Janine Jansen, Menahem Pressler, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Daniel Müller-Schott, Pablo Ferrández, Amihai Grosz, Timothy Ridout, Kian Soltani, Nils Mönkemeyer, Igor Levit, Enrico Pace, Quirine Viersen, Thomas Beijer Arthur en Lucas Jussen. Noa vormt een vast duo met de Duitse pianiste Elisabeth Brauß.
Ze werkt samen met orkesten als Tonhalleorchester Zürich, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Gürzenich Orchester Köln, Bamberger Symphoniker, Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Staatsorchester Stuttgart, Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, Residentie Orkest, Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Nederlands Kamerorkest, Concertgebouw Kamerorkest, Camerata Salzburg, Kremerata Baltica, Chamber Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein, Orquestra Sinfônica de João Pessoa in Brazil and Orquesta Sinfónica de Guayaquil in Ecuador, in samenwerking met dirigenten als Manfred Honeck, James Gaffigan, Michael Sanderling, Vasily Petrenko, Anja Bihlmaier, Nicholas Collon, Elim Chan, Patrick Hahn, Matthias Pintscher, Fabien Gabel and Ariel Zuckermann.
Nikola Meeuwsen (2002) heeft als pianist van de jonge generatie al een opmerkelijk volwassen internationale carrière opgebouwd.
In 2023 speelde hij het Pianoconcert van Grieg met het Noord-Tsjechisch Filharmonisch Orkest in de befaamde Dvořák-zaal van het Rudolfinum in Praag. Op 19 januari 2024 maakte hij zijn solodebuut in het Koninklijk Concertgebouw met werken van Schubert, Beethoven, Brahms en Schumann. In datzelfde jaar speelde hij het Vijfde Pianoconcert van Beethoven met het Litouws Nationaal Orkest in Dortmund. In Brussel bundelde hij zijn krachten met pianist Avedis Kouyoumdjian en Sinfonia Varsovia onder Augustin Dumay voor Mozarts Concerto voor twee piano’s. In januari 2025 trad hij voor de derde keer op als solist met het Residentie Orkest in Den Haag met het Eerste Pianoconcert van Chopin. In februari 2025 voerde hij het Tweede Pianoconcerto van Prokofjev uit met het Nationaal Orkest van België. In de halve finale van het Elisabethconcours 2025 speelde hij, samen met het Orchestre Royale de Chambre de Wallonie, Mozarts Concerto nr. 9 (Jeunehomme) en in de finale het Tweede Pianoconcerto van Prokofjev met het Brussels Philharmonic. Hij heeft meerdere concerten gegeven met het Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, het Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen en het Nederlands Kamerorkest. Nikola’s concertrepertoire omvat (onder meer) ook het Tweede pianoconcert van Rachmaninoff, het Eerste pianoconcert van Tsjaikovski, het pianoconcert van Clara Schumann en het Eerste en Derde Pianoconcert van Beethoven.
Nikola’s uitzonderlijke talent werd al vroeg herkend. Hij won het Steinway Concours op negenjarige leeftijd in 2012 en het Koninklijk Concertgebouw Concours in 2014. Op 20-jarige leeftijd werd Nikola de jongste musicus ooit die de Grachtenfestival Prijs ontving en in 2023 was hij artist in residence op dit Amsterdamse festival. In 2019 ontving hij de Concertgebouw Young Talent Award. In 2025 won hij als jongste finalist (23 jaar) het Koningin Elisabeth Concours en ontving hij uit handen van Koningin Mathilde de Grote Internationale Prijs Koningin Elisabeth, de Eerste Prijs, Prijs Koningin Mathilde.
Nikola is een graag geziene gast op festivals zoals het Storioni Festival, Kamermuziekfestival Schiermonnikoog en Classical NOW! en het St. Magnus Festival. Hij speelde in concertzalen in heel Europa en maakt opnames voor radiozenders als de Bayerischer Rundfunk. In 2025 verschijnt zijn debuutalbum op het Channel Classics label. Hij heeft samengewerkt met gerenommeerde musici als Alexander Kerr, Augustin Dumay, Corina Belcea, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Nobuko Imai, en onlangs met Janine Jansen op het Sion Festival en het Utrecht International Chamber Music Festival. Nikola werkt regelmatig samen met toonaangevende jonge musici als Noa Wildschut, Benjamin Kruithof, SongHa Choi, Leonhard Baumgartner en Alexander Warenberg. Hij treedt ook op met zijn leraar en mentor Enrico Pace en met pianist Denis Kozhukhin.
Zijn concert in Schotland in juni 2023 kreeg een vijfsterrenrecensie van The Times: “Meeuwsen’s suave technique tapped right into the delicacy and beauty of everything he played, and the evanescent seemliness of the sound in Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin was enormously moving.”
Nikola studeert sinds 2010 bij Marlies van Gent en sinds 2014 bij Enrico Pace aan de Accademia Pianistica in Imola. Momenteel studeert hij ook aan de Koningin Elisabeth Kapel in Brussel bij Frank Braley en Avedis Kouyoumdjian.
Thuis in Den Haag studeert Nikola op een Bösendorfer vleugel, die het Nationaal Muziekinstrumenten Fonds (NMF) hem in bruikleen heeft gegeven.
The Luxembourgish cellist Benjamin Kruithof is the winner of the 2022 Georges Enescu competition in Bucharest (Romania). The critic Alexander Hall from the British music site “Bachtrack” describes Benjamin’s playing as “noble, singing, beautiful”.
Oves the past years Benjamin has successfully demonstrated his talent in a myriad national and international competitions. In 2020 he won the first prize, the audience award and the prize for the best interpretation of the assignment composition at the “Cello Biennale Competition” in Amsterdam. Moreover, he is a prize winner of the Pablo Casals Award in Spain (special award), the Gabrielli competition in Berlin (second prize), the Anne and Françoise Groben Grand Prix in Luxembourg (first prize and audience award), the Flame Competition in Paris (first prize and special prize), the Leopold Bellan International Competition in Paris (first prize and audience award) as well as the International Knopf competition in Düsseldorf.
As a soloist Benjamin has performed with orchestras such as, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra (OPL), the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra, the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra, the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie Herford, as well as the Phion Orchestra and played in prestigious venues such as Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Gasteig in Munich, Kings Place in London, Guangzhou Opera House, the Philharmonie Luxembourg-City, Salle Cortot in Paris, Athenaeum in Bucharest.
In the forthcoming season 2023/24 Benjamin will make his debut with the West-Eastern chamber orchestra at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest, the Solistes Européens under the direction of Christoph König at the Philharmonie Luxembourg and the Liechtenstein Sinfonie Orchester conducted by Yaron Traub.
Benjamin is also very active as a chamber musician. He has participated in various chamber music academies as for instance Seiji Ozawa Academy (2021,2022) and in the summer of 2023 he will play at festivals such as Krzyzowa Music, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Grachtenfestival Amsterdam.
During his career Benjamin has played with artists such as Hartmut Hänchen, Tito Munos, Conrad van Alphen, Adrian Adlam, Vadym Kholodenko, Alena Baeva and Vahan Mardirossian.
In February 2020 he recorded his first CD “Russian Mood” with the orchestra Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie Herford for the label Ars Production. For this recording he was nominated in 4 categories of the “OPUS KLASSIK 2022”.
Benjamin Kruithof was born in Luxembourg into a family of musicians and started playing the cello at the age of 5 at the “Conservatoire du Nord” with Raju Vidali. In recent years Benjamin studied with Professors such as Mirel Iancovici (Conservatorium Maastricht), Katharina Deserno and Maria Kliegel (Hfmt Köln). Since 2017 Benjamin is a student of Prof. Jens-Peter Maintz at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
Benjamin is currently playing a precious 18th-century instrument made by the Italian violin maker G.B. Guadagnini, which is on loan from the Berlin University of the Arts. Moreover, he plays with a rare bow made by the French bow maker F.X. Tourte.
