Het nieuwe seizoen van Kamermuziek in de Koningszaal wordt geopend door niemand minder dan Dominic Seldis, aanvoerder van de contrabassectie van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest en onder meer bekend als welbespraakt jurylid van het tv-programma Maestro.

In een afwisselend programma met werken van o.a. Elgar en Paganini bewijst Seldis dat de ogenschijnlijk logge contrabas niet alleen lyrische kwaliteiten heeft, maar ook razend virtuoos kan klinken. Maestro Jules (dirigent Jules van Hessen) licht het concert op zijn kenmerkende wijze toe met dit keer ook een prikkelende bijdrage van Karlien Pijnenborg, namens het Groote Museum.

Biografie

Dominic Seldis is a double bass player, television personality, conductor and corporate speaker.

Born in Newmarket, Suffolk in the UK in 1971, he attended Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, then studied Double Bass at The Royal Academy of Music in London and Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.

Whilst living in London in his early 20’s, he began developing his solo career, working with all the major symphony/chamber orchestras in the UK and working in the London film recording studios playing on such films as Harry Potter, James Bond and The English Patient.

When Dominic moved to the west of the UK to take up his position as Principal Double Bass of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in 1998 and it was there that he started working on television. After many appearances on various classical music shows mainly on the BBC, he became a jury member on the BBC show ‘Maestro’ in 2008 which ran for 2 series.

In 2008 Dominic moved to The Netherlands to become the 1st Solo Double Bass player with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. His solo playing career continued to blossom and he had a concerto written for him by Tan Dun called ‘The Wolf’. He also developed a solo bass show with long time musical partner James Pearson called ‘Stand Up Bass’ which has played to many sold out audiences around The Netherlands. In 2020 his first own theatre show ‘ Music, Maestro!’ premiered in Haarlem and ran for over 50 times. With his favourite opera singer Francis van Broekhuizen he toured the Dutch theatres in ‘The Francis and Dominic Show’ in 2022. At this moment he is touring the Netherlands with his new theatre show ‘Favourites’.

Dominic became a jury member of ‘Maestro’ but this time in The Netherlands made by Tuvalu media and AvroTros in 2012. The 7th season has just finished and has been viewed by over 2 million music lovers every week.

He has also presented various other TV shows in Holland including ‘Het Orkest van Nederland’ and the award winning ‘De Nieuwe Stradivarius’,was a contestant on ‘Make Up Your Mind’ and ‘Race Across The World’, and now appears regularly on Dutch television. Since 2017 he is hosting the annual ‘ Avond van de Filmmuziek’ in Ziggo Dome. He also has a busy career as a conductor and corporate speaker.
